Round 3 Preview – Weekend Pennant

Welcome to Round 3

The 20/21 season is a whirlwind. With only 14 rounds to play every round carries more weight than any normal season.

Here’s a quick preview of the matches ahead for Berwick in Round 3, and a reminder to everyone to get involved in the aftermatch round-up at the Clubhouse on Saturday evening.

This week there are 4 Sides traveling

Side 2 is traveling to Carrum to enjoy the lousy parking and strong winds that are almost always on offer down by the bay. Carrum 1 have enjoyed one win and one draw so far and sit 9 points but only one spot above the 2’s on the ladder. Carrum drew against Narre Warren last week and they’ll be very competitive on their home green.

Side 4 travels to Noble Park to take on their top side. Noble Park is sitting on top of the ladder with two wins from two games, and the 4’s come off a loss against Moorabbin 2 last week at home. “The park” has a handsome percentage and sits 13 points clear of 5th place Berwick 4. The Wickers will need to bring their “A” game tomorrow to knock off the home side.

Side 6 gets to sample the delights of Glen Waverley as they take on their 3rd side. Neither side has scored a win so far this season. So, baring a draw, someone is going to finish the day happy. The Super Sixes moved up a division this year and the change in the competition is challenging.

Side 7 is also on the road to the bayside suburb of Chelsea. The 7’s held the flame for Berwick last week and will be looking to build on their winning form against Chelsea 2 who have yet to post a win in Season 20/21. The conditions at Chelsea can be variable but winning form is good form. Go Wickers!

There are 3 sides playing at home

Side 1 takes on Mulgrave Country Club 1. The Mulgrave side is coming off a home win against Burden Park last week while the 1’s got a lesson in playing slow greens in windy conditions way up Upwey way in round 2. The 1’s will be seeking redemption and with a little help from Spotify will welcome the return to a home green in a must-win matchup.

Side 3 plays Pakenham 2. There are 6 sides in the section locked together with 1 win and 1 loss. Paky and Berwick sit 4th and 7th respectively. Pakenham had a 4 shot win over Mulgrave CC last week and will look to capitalise on their winning form. The 3’s will look to put last week’s match against Chelsea into the history book and move back to winning this week at home.

Side 5 plays Mulgrave 5. The fives haven’t cracked the winning list yet this year and are sitting in 8th spot while Mulgrave, with 1 and 1, are in 3rd spot on the ladder. The Wickers need to dig deep and play well from the the first end to the last and turn their season around on Saturday.

Once again, we wish everyone good bowling on Saturday and encourage everyone to get involved in the match day wrap and “Tool of the Week” persentation for each side. Winners receive a free Schooner.

GO WICKERS!
