Weekend Pennant Round 1 Wrap

Round 1 finally took place yesterday

After much uncertainty in the past months. We gathered at the club before our matches, it was great to see so many excited and enthusiastic people preparing to enjoy the day ahead.

Our thanks go out to everyone who worked so hard to get us to this point.

This season there are 7 sides representing the club in Weekend Pennant and we have are a couple of new initiatives during the next 14 weeks of play.

  • Each week we will ask a member of the opposition to “vote” for a player of the day on each rink. We will tally the votes at the end of the season and announce a pennant player of the year.
  • Each week we will also gather at the Clubhouse after the day’s play and receive a match report from each of the sides,  including a “tool of the week” nomination. There were nominations from several sides last evening, with Side 1 awarding their tool to Mark Walker for his effort in managing the Big Board.
We’d like to see as many as possible get involved and have a bit of fun, post-game.

There were 4 wins and 3 losses yesterday, with some very close results.

Side 1 defeated Mordialloc 1, 74 / 66
Side 2 defeated Cranbourne 2, 88 / 74
Side 3 defeated Cranbourne RSL 1, 74 / 73
Side 4 defeated Narre Warren 2, 78 / 73
Side 5 lost to Cranbourne 3, 74 / 76
Side 6 lost to Mordialloc 2, 66 / 69
Side 7 lost to Noble Park 2, 63 / 100

The Johnny Boys Pizzas went to Team 26. It was a tough day for the Sevens playing against Noble Park’s twos, but the team of Rod Beavors, Andrew Brock, Albert Bertoncello, and Ken Dorning came away with 2 points and tasty pizza to enjoy as well.
