Round 4 Preview – Weekend Pennant

Good Morning and welcome to round 4.

Just a few months ago, no-one was sure if we would have a pennant season in 2020-21, and it’s been a very different season in many ways.

Today is the final round for the 2020 part of the season and many of you will be pretty happy to see an end to one of the most challenging years that we have faced.

There’s a game of bowls to play before we draw the curtain on the year though. There are Four sides that travel to far away lands today and three that remain at home.

The forecast: Partly cloudy, medium chance of light showers this morning and early afternoon with light winds with a top of 19 degrees.

Travelling Sides today are:

Side 2. The 5th placed two’s journey to the bayside suburb of Beaumaris to play their 2nd side. The two’s had a tough day last week at Carrum and Beaumaris didn’t fare well at Dandenong club either. The Beaumaris side is yet to have a win this season and will be a strong opponent on their home greens today. There’s a big gap between the top for sides and rest of the field, the 2’s need a win to keep in touch with the top sides.

Side 4. The Four’s sit in 6th on the ladder and they take on 7th placed Edithvale 2. Edithvale haven’t won a match this season, and with light winds forecast the task for Berwick 4 is made a little easier as they look to rebound from a loss to Noble Park’s top side last week. Like the 2nd side, there’s a gap building between the top 5 sides in the section. A win is important.

Side 6. The Sixer’s moved up a Division in 2020 and haven’t saluted so far this season.  They’ve had a couple of close games and they’re going to need to pull out all the stops today as they travel to Churchill Park Waverley Golf Club [and I’m only writing that once!] to tackle the section leading side. CPWGC 1 haven’t dropped a match yet and they will be a tough opponent at home and some Sixer’s spirit is going to be needed today.

Side 7. The Seven’s are in seventh spot on the ladder as they drive down the freeway to the “dome” at Dandenong to meet the Dandy Club 4’s. Dandenong Club got done at Willow Lodge last week and they’ll be keen to bounce back and consolidate their 2nd spot on the ladder. The seven’s have a long row to hoe today, but the conditions under the big top are as good as they get.

Our Home Sides are:

Side 1. Meet up with our old nemesis Pakenham 1 today. Berwick are in 4th spot with 2 wins, Packy are in 2nd. Both sides are in winning form from last round and today’s match promises to be a tough contest. A win here should see the One’s secure their position in the top four as we head into the break.

Side 3. Sit in 3rd spot and their opponent today Mulgrave CC 4 are right behind them only 6 points back. The 3’s grabbed a win last week against Pakenham while the mob from Mulgrave were beaten at home. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Three’s to build on the win last week and post their third win for the season.

Side 5. They occupy 6th spot and they meet up with eighth placed Pakenham 3. The Five’s had their first win for the season last week when they knocked off Mulgrave. This week is also a golden opportunity to get two in a row and build some momentum heading into the Christmas break. But beware the wounded enemy, Pakenham will put up a fight.

Go Wickers!
