The weather took quite a turn from yesterday as Berwick 5 took on Cardinia Waters 1 at Hampton Park for the Sectional Final today.
Cardinia Waters have enjoyed a very good season this year and were the favourite (on paper) leading into todays match. Win or lose, the Fab Fives played a great game yesterday to make it into Division 3 next season and to earn the place in today’s final.
As the sides neared the tea break a cool southerly change had players and spectators running for their wet weather gear and some much needed shelter.
The Fab Fives had great support from many Berwick members, and Pat’s clapper got another heavy workout as the crowd cheered Berwick on.
Trailing at the break
At the break it was Cardinia Waters who held sway, but the Wickers rallied after tea to bring the gap back to 7 or 8 shots.
Team huddle after the break.
Cardinia Waters however were not to be denied their section win eventually running out victorious by 19 shots (83 to 64).
Carsten’s rink were the only team to win on the day (21 to 13) . The other rink scores were…Karl (20 to 26), Ted (12-26) and Trevor (11 to 18).
Congratulations to the Side on a great season and promotion next year. Special thanks too to Peter Kirby who stepped in at the last minute to take Jim Weir’s spot as he was forced to pull out at short notice.
Our thanks also to the Hampton Park Bowling Club who were fabulous hosts and turned on a great spread for the Tea break, accommodating players and spectators alike.
