The Saturday Pennant season resumes today with 25 degrees forecast with some cloud cover, but that shouldn’t dampen our day.
We hope that everyone enjoyed a fabulous Christmas and New Year period with friends and family, now on to the serious business of bowls.
This week there are 4 Sides at Home and 5 travelling to all points of the compass.
Ringwood gathered a win in the final round of 2018 and will be a tough opposition for the 1st side this week. The remainder of the season will be a growth and development period for the players in the “ones” and the remaining 7 weeks will be a great opportunity to play quality opposition and improve.
Both sides are coming of a last round win. The 2’s are in finals contention and will be wanting to build on their current 4th place to make sure of a post season finals berth. A journey of a 10,000 miles starts with the first step, that’s today.
Edithvale can be a difficult green to play and the home side has a few very handy players. The 3’s are coming off a great win last round and they’re also hanging on to an opportunity to play finals. This promises to be a very close game and there are a number of Wickers who’re getting an opportunity to play at a higher level this week.
Another very close match up here with both sides having a win in round 11 and both in contention for finals. The 4’s have had a couple of fabulous wins in the past couple of rounds taking nearly 50 shots off their opposition in both of the last rounds. They’ll want to start off 2019 strongly and make every bowl a winner and take advantage of the home greens.
There are two Berwick sides at Edithvale today and they’ll be able to cheer one another on during the day. The 2’s have 8 wins this year and last time around they took 15 shots off Edithvale at home. Round 11 was a great win for the 5’s grabbing 45 shots from Cranbourne RSL and they go into the day with confidence. Edithvale’s winds can be tricky though so they need to concentrate and play well.
The SUPER 6’s are having an awesome season, but this is the biggest danger game since round 3 when Cranbourne took the win at Berwick. The 6’s are at Cranny today and there are a few players over there that will be very keen to knock Berwick off twice in the season. This is quite possibly the game of the round and the result will be eagerly anticipated.
The Sevens are still in finals contention but they’ll need to reverse their recent form slump and gather a much needed away win against Hampton today if they’re to hold on to their 4th position. They had a great win against the bayside side in round 3 and will be wanting to get off to a flying start in 2019.
It’s been a topsy turvey season for the 8’s so far with a win last round they’re looking to put two victories together. Round three was declared a washout early and the two sides have yet to meet in season 18/19. Once again this is an opportunity to build on the last round win against Ferntree Gully 5, and move out of the relegation zone.
Over the hills and far away!
The greens at Monbulk will challenge today.
But the 9’s aren’t dills,
They’ve got plenty of skills,
To gather a big win, away.
Enjoy the day everyone and …
