Saturday Pennant Preview. Round 3

Good Morning and welcome to Saturday, Round 3.
The weather has chosen to be a little fickle this morning. Some early rain has already fallen but this should reduce to a partly cloudy afternoon and a forecast of 17 degrees for bowls today.

This week we welcome visiting sides from:
  • Edithvale Bowling Club Inc. – plays Sides 3 and 5
  • Cranbourne Lawn Bowls – plays Side 6
  • Hampton Bowls Club – plays Side 7
  • Monbulk Bowling Club and Bistro – plays Side 9
Our travelling sides are off in all directions
  • Side 1 are off to Ringwood (1)
  • Side 3 are going to Mordialloc (1)
  • Side 4 to Bennettswood (1)
  • Side 8 to play Bentleigh (5)
The season hasn’t started well for the top two sides and they’ll be looking to make amends. Ringwood are 1 & 1 and Mordialloc are yet to have a win, so there’s every opportunity for the top 2 sides to put some points on the board away from home this week.
Side 3 has started their 18-19 campaign strongly sitting 3rd in their section. Edithvale are in 6th and won’t be a pushover today. Every bowl will count for the 3’s as they work to make it 3 from 3.
Side 4 has also started with two wins and will have a game on their hands today playing away against the best of the rest in Bennettswood 1. A win here will see the 4’s as a genuine contender in their section.
Side 5 are in 6th spot and they meet 2nd placed Edithvale 3 who have won both their opening matches. The home green should help the 5’s as they look to make it 2 from 3 in the early season matches.
Side 6 take on Cranbourne 3 – Both sides have started with two wins and this will be a good contest for the Super 6’s as they look to consolidate their 2nd position and maybe move on to top spot with a win today.
Side 7’s section includes a bye round so the ladder position (5th) doesn’t really reflect the true position in this section, however Hampton 3 have won both their matches so far and the 7’s will need to work hard away from home to post their 2nd win.
Side 8 takes on Bentleigh 5 at Bentleigh today. Both sides have a 1 & 1 record so far this season and sit 3 points ahead of the 8’s on their section ladder. A win away today should see the 8’s make a jump up the ladder.
Side 9 also have a bye in their draw, so the real story won’t be clear for a few more rounds to come. They have a tough draw this week though as they take on ladder leaders Monbulk 2. Monbulk have started strongly, but the home green advantage should help to level things up for the 9’s this week.
Good Bowling to everyone today, may all your draws be touchers!
