JJ’s Weekly News – 5/3/19
We have 6 sides (1 Mid Week and 5 Saturday sides in the finals. A great effort. Well done and we wish everyone all the very best in their Finals campaign. We encourage anyone not playing to get along to support our Club.
Mid Week pennant
Side 5 will take on Churchill Waverley Golf on TUESDAY 5th March. If successful on that day, they will play the Section Final on Thursday 7th March at Burden Park playing the winners of Pakenham 3 and Edithvale 4. Please note that no green fees are payable for players participating in any of the Finals.
Sides 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 have all made the Finals.
Whilst we have not yet received official confirmation from Bowls Vic, and will not until Tuesday/Wednesday, we anticipate that the schedule will be as follows with our matches as listed hereunder:
Saturday 9th March – Sectional Semi Finals, with the winners on that day to play the Section Finals on Sunday 10th March. The venues for the Saturday matches are determined by the position on the ladder. The (Sunday) Finals will be at venues that will be known later in the week. When we have full details we will advise by email and post on the Website and Selection notice board at the Club. Please note that no green fees are payable for players participating in any of the Finals.
All are Sectional Semi Finals – Saturday 9th March:
Side 3: Playing Keysborough 1 at Keysborough. (Other Semi Final between Carrum 1 and Edithvale 1)
Side 4: Playing Vermont South 3 AT HOME (Other Semi Final between Chadstone 1 and Ashburton 2)
Side 5: Playing Narre Warren 2 at Narre Warren (Other Semi Final between Cardinia Waters 1 and Parkdale 2)
Side 6: Playing Cranbourne 3 AT HOME (Other Semi Final between Dandenong Club 2 and Churchill Waverley Golf 2)
Side 7: Playing Beaumaris 4 at Beaumaris (Other Semi Final between Cheltenham 4 and Hampton 3)
We are also required to Host a Mid Week Final on Thursday 7th March, and we anticipate that we will also be required by Bowls Vic to host at least one or two Saturday Section Finals on Sunday 10th March and maybe even on the following weekends for Division Semi Finals and Finals, (all not involving a Berwick side), so we will be calling for some assistance on those days from Umpires and catering and bar volunteers. If able to assist, please contact Jeff Janetzki

The last day of this popular event was held on Monday 25th February, and we congratulate the season winners “Lets Unwine Berwick”, with BBC member Kurt Oswald.
With the magnificent work from Tony Wynen and over 70 members who played in or supported this event in one way or another, this event attracted 48 teams from businesses in Berwick and surrounding areas, and generated a net profit of approx $17,500 for the club.
Our thanks go to all the sponsors and members who ensured that event was again such a success, with special thanks to the Convenor Tony Wynen for his continuing great work.
Again with the generous sponsorship of this event from David Bond, this event will be conducted every Monday commencing Monday 8th April and continuing through to 26th August. See the notice board or contact Graham Rushton (0412 749 230) for details.
We have lodged an Expression of Interest with Bowls Australia for Berwick to host some early rounds of this event. BPL09 is an event for all bowlers, for a team of four bowlers, interchanging as a Triples combination, played over the period May-July, culminating in finals being played in Queensland with expenses paid. This year all preliminary rounds will be sectional play and this should encourage more team entries…maybe some teams from Berwick, and maybe played at Berwick. When we have more details we will advise, but for more information now, check the Bowls Australia website.
1st and 3rd Sundays of each month from 10.00am, (mainly for new/er bowlers)
Every Thursday from 12.30pm with Andrew Johnson continuing through the Finals period
Personal coaching sessions can be arranged with individual coaches. The off season is your best opportunity to achieve some improvement in your game!
