JJ’s Weekly News – 11/3/19

New Development

Over 60 members attended the Information Session held at the Club on Monday 4th March.

They heard about the development plans for the club, and in particular the recommendation from the BOM to install a synthetic green onto Green 3 at a total cost of $219,000.

  • $179,000 from the Federal Government Grant is the major source of funding.
  • The Club will contribute the balance of $40,000 from our cash reserves.

The proposal received unanimous support and the Club will now proceed to the next step which will include investigations to determine the type of green to be installed.

Information was also conveyed about future plans, including:

  • Landscaping,
  • Establishment of viewing areas,
  • Additional bar facilities on the outdoor deck,
  • Covering in of the outdoor deck and
  • Installation of a roof over the new green.

These matters will proceed with the involvement of a working party. Further members information sessions will take place as items progress.

Our Finals campaign is now over. All sides competed strongly with the standouts being Mid Week side 5 and Saturday Side 5 who both made it into the Sectional Final and will be promoted to the next Division.

Midweek Side 5 won against Churchill Waverley Golf on Tuesday but then fell to a strong Pakenham 3 side on Thursday.

Saturday Side 5 also put up a great fight and lost to a very strong Cardinia Waters who were clear leaders all season. Well done to both our sides with good results against very good opposition.

Saturday Side 6 against Cranbourne 3 in the Semi Final had to play an extra end. What a finish and a great experience for all and one they will never forget..

All our other sides – Saturday 3,4 and 7 had great seasons and should be applauded for their efforts over the season and in the Finals.

Now that finishes the pennant season. Well done to all with 6 sides in the Finals (1 Mid Week and 5 Saturday sides) and just one relegation. Everyone involved; players, selectors and all those who do so much work just to get our sides on the green every week should be very proud of their efforts and with the continued effort and support we can look forward to the next season which a high degree of optimism.

We hosted some mid Week and Saturday finals matches between other clubs on behalf of BV and we thank those who helped out: Allen Fary, Pat Thompson, John Arboit, Alan Thompson, Rita Waugh and Bill Stilo.

Of course we cannot forget Mark Walker and his team who again presented our members and visitors with greens throughout the season and the Finals that again attracted so many favourable comments. Well done to all who are involved in getting and maintaining our greens in such wonderful condition.

Green 4 has just been “stretched”.

Green 4 gets a stretch

From all reports, and my own limited experience, it has substantially improved and is running very well.

It is now running at approx 14.00 / 14.50 secs. This is in the range that we wanted.

With more play it may improve even further. Of course, we must remember that our Carpet green (like all surfaces) will have some idiosyncrasies, and the more we play on it, the more we will become accustomed to the lines, so use the winter to become comfortable on this new surface.
